Also visit digg.com and look around. Find an article or something else with a high digg score that in your opinion doesn't deserve such a score. Post about it in your blog. Why do you think it doesn't deserve such a score? What are some pros and cons of social bookmarking?

Grading

Hey guys

Assignments 1-7 have been graded. There's some important things to note about grading.

First is if you have a 0, it either means you didn't do an assignment or I can't find it. If it's the latter just let me know, it's not always easy to find stuff on a blog.

Second is if you aren't satisfied with your grade on a particular assignment, one option is to double check that you've followed the directions, put a bit more work into it and ask me to take another look. After all this is an experimental course so grading will be somewhat lenient. It's always a good idea to check out what other students are doing.

I want to say that overall I'm impressed with the work so far. Some people come to class often and participate in the discussions, I'm glad to hear your opinions. Others do fantastic work on your blogs and I haven't seen you since day 1. There are different ways to approach a class like this but both will be rewarded when it comes to the end of the term and I have to think about participation and final grades.

We've learned a variety of different tools, but some of the remaining lectures will likely be centered on "why" and "what if". The guest lecture this coming wednesday on copyright and IP is an example.

We watched a video on one of Google's latest technologies, called Google Wave. Make a blog post about your impressions from the demo. What did you like or dislike? Is it just hype or a potentially very useful application?

Assignment 7

Due July 15th

Choose another student's wiki page that you're interested in and add content to it. This can include text, images, or video just like your own page. The idea is to use the wiki interface for collaborative content generation.

Assignment 6

Due Wednesday, July 8th

Everyone should have received email invites to join our class wiki.

Your assignment is to create a page on that wiki. The page can be about any topic you're interested in. Make it factual, as opposed to a blog-like opinion piece. Use wikipedia as a model. Incorporate some higher level content such as videos, images, snippets from wolframalpha, screenshots of google earth, etc.

The next phase will be to edit some of your classmate's pages and add to them, making it collaborative. For now just do your own page, more about phase 2 next week.

I have a stub of a sample page on the wiki already. I'll be populating that more so that you can see a working example wiki page.
